The destruction of natural resources and specially of forests (both locally and internationally), emphasizes the need for programs in favor of the environment, programs that include education and awareness projects, in order for our new generations to be alert as concerns the risks of environmental destruction, and take more precautions to preserve the natural equilibrium. OIPIC, with its vast experience in the environmental field (particularly in the Forest Sector), introduces through its CAMPESINO SENDA project, this new WORLD PEACE FOREST AND THE NEW MILLENIUM campaign, jointly with OZONO
Paraguay is currently going through a dramatic situation as concerns its natural resources. In a few more years, more species that are currently under critical danger, shall be extinct. Important data: in 1945, 55% of Paraguay’s Oriental Region was covered with forests. Nowadays, only 3% remains. With this decrease in forest cover, not only trees are in danger, but also the habitat of many animal species.
AIM:
TO PLANT MORE THAN 200 MILLION INDIGENOUS TREES IN PARAGUAY
GOALS:
To reforest several zones of the country with indigenous species, starting in the Chaco region, achieving that, as from the year 2000, Paraguay (the number one deforestation country during the past few decades) be known as a reforesting country as a symbol of the new Millenium.
Thus, all inhabitants of the world shall have the opportunity to take active part of this ambitious project as sponsor of a tree.
Also, other beneficiaries include: nature in general, the climate, rural women that plant indigenous trees, children, future generations.
The construction of a visitor’s center is also projected, as well as that of an institute for forest research and an international meeting center for ecologists and peacemakers of the world. As from the new Millenium, these shall serve as venue for world summits where Indian Chiefs, Scientists, peacemakers and ecologists from all over the world shall meet to exchange ideas and prepare plans and programs to save the planet from destruction.
Beneficiaries:
1) This project will become a symbol of international awareness for the recovery and conservation of rainforests.
2) More programs in favor of reforestation with indigenous species shall be promoted.
3) It is an opportunity for persons all over the world to take active part in forest preservation projects in South-America.
4) Tax incentives: international companies may deduce their donations to this project through carbon sequestering programs. For many firms, CARBON SEQUESTERING is still a new concept, developed by first world countries as a measure to "compensate" for the serious damage done to the environment throughout these last decades. Thus, currently these same countries support and develop CARBON SEQUESTERING programs as an attempt to palliate the effects of environmental contamination resulting from their industrial processes. Note: A mature tree consumes an average of 6 kg of CO2 per year; as concerns indigenous species, the rate is even higher.
5) Creation of jobs for more than 30,000 rural families, and specially for rural women of the Campesino Senda Project that are in charge of forest nurseries. These women shall receive their payment directly, improving the quality of life of their family in general and of their children in particular; men are in charge of planting the product of these nurseries in the pertinent world peace forests.
6) A community fund of the Campesino Senda Project shall be opened, thus providing funds for the construction and improvement of schools, health centers, etc.. Under this project, it is estimated that more than 2000 schools and health centers shall be constructed.
7) The population in general, who shall benefit from a better environment through the creation of these "green lungs".
8) Tourism in Paraguay shall increase significantly; the creation of employment in this sector shall be promoted.
9) Paraguay´s economy: there shall be an economic growth in rural areas, through the sale of the production from forest nurseries, the world peace forests and ecological tourism, and this growth shall have a positive impact on the country’s economy in general.
10)Paraguay´s faune shall be benefited by the re-introduction of indigenous species to the
Zone of influence of the Biological Reserve created with the WORLD PEACE FOREST.
Note: groupings of urban trees may reduce air temperature by 10%, thus decreasing the demand for electric power (ex. Air conditioners) between 10 and 50% (The Earth Works Group)
Note: With the total of 20 million trees, some 120,000,000 kg of CO2 may be sequestered as from the year 10.
Costs:
Each tree costs US$ 30. This amount includes: purchase of trees from rural women, plantation and posterior care, and the construction of a small town and of center for international conferences with local construction material, within the perimeter of the World Peace Forest.
THE WORLD PEACE FOREST IS ADDRESSED TO:
Universities all over the world
International industries
Sport Organizations
Banks; Institutions, Embassies.
Firms
Clubs like Rotary, Lions, etc.
Individual persons
As from 100 trees, a personal plaque indicating the name of the institution or firm and country of origin shall be placed on the parcel.
Whose idea is it and who shall carry out the project:
