Tatanga Mani Proyect

Our Ecological School opened its doors three years ago. Classes begun in 1998 with 30 students; in 1999, 80 children were present and nowadays, more than 200 students attend school from kindergarten to 9th grade.

At the official inauguration, the Ambassador of Great Britain, Mr. Georges Andrew, and the Consul of Germany, Dr. Thomas Bruns were present. The opening words were pronounced by Monsignor Ismaël Rolón.

TATANGA MANI (Indian Chief of the Stoney tribe from Canada) was the first Peace Ambassador of the World during the First World War, designated by the British Crown and the Government of Canada. During his constant travels around the world, this great leader intended to transmit to the People the Indian philosophies on nature and peace.

It should be pointed out that 80% of this school was built through the sale of indigenous trees from OIPIC's Campesino Senda Project and the CITSA/OIPIC campaign ("an indigenous tree per each telephone line"). In fact, with this campaign, about 80,000 trees found a new home..

We also received support from the embassadies of Germany, Great Britain and the Canadian Fond.
